5 Ways to Get More from Your Van

When your van is your 'office' it pays to get the most out of it. That's why we've put together this handy guide to show you the top 5 ways we think you can do just that. Everything you'll need to make it the most efficient and convenient van, daily.

1. Roof Racks

Fitting a van roof rack is one of the easiest ways to instantly add capacity. Perfect for carrying materials, ladders and long length items that wouldn't normally fit in the back of your van; they're pretty straight forward to fit and can be installed at home with no specialist tools required.

When choosing a roof rack, you'll have two main options - a full gallery style roof rack or simpler roof bars. Both styles are up to the job but here's our recommendation:

Gallery Style Roof Rack
Though they're generally more expensive and take longer to fit (approx. 60 mins), gallery style van racks are great for carrying multiple ladders or larger loads like multiple 8 x 4 sheets.

Examples include: Van Guard ULTI Rack, Rhino Aluminium Roof Rack and Rhino Modular Rack.

2. Roof Rack Accessories

Expanding your existing roof rack with compatible accessories is a quick way to adapt it to any job. There are loads of accessories on offer direct from manufacturers like Rhino and Van Guard Accessories. Here's the most popular:

Load Stops
Prevent ladders or materials from sliding around on your roof rack or bars. They fit directly to your existing rack and are adjustable along the length of the bar to adapt to any load.

Available for the Rhino Delta roof bars, Rhino KammBar and Van Guard ULTI Bar, load stops start at £16.99 for a pair.

Ladder Clamps
Fastening your ladders to your roof rack with lockable ladder clamps is good for both safety and security. They hook round the ladder and fasten to your roof rack with either a padlock or integrated lock.

3. Pipe Tubes

Add a pipe tube to your van for an easy way to carry a variety of long length materials like pipes, conduit, fascias and tile trims. With 2 or 3 metre lengths available as standard, you wont have to cut materials to take them to site and, thanks to integrated locks, they'll be safe and secure on the roof of your van.

A couple of tips to consider before choosing your van pipe carrier:

Capacity
Some pipe carriers, like Van Guard's Maxi range have extra capacity - a standard carrier will take approx. 36 x copper tubes (15mm), where as a Maxi will accept up to 60! If you're carrying a lot of material in one go, it might be worth the upgrade.

4. Internal Racking

Upgrade the interior of your van with a van racking system and whatever you're carrying, it'll be neat, tidy and on hand quickly! Available in ply or steel, they're pretty quick to install - all of our van racking range is supplied pre-assembled - and don't normally require any specialist tools to fit.

When shopping for interior van racking, you'll see there's both universal and van specific kits on offer. With universal van racking, you can mix and match to suit your exact requirements but with van specific - like our Vauxhall Vivaro interior racking kit - you're safe in the knowledge you're making the most out of the space available.

5. Tool Storage

Keep you tools organised and protect them from theft with a tool store. These high-strength galvanised steel van tool boxes are available in a range of sizes to suit requirements and can be fastened to your van for added security.
