Vauxhall Presents Vivaro Surf Concept
When you think of a van-based leisure vehicle, a derivative of the VW Transporter - either a van conversion, the Kombi or the California - instantly comes to mind. The current T5 has been a weekend getaway favourite for years. Now though, Vauxhall is looking to change that with their new Vivaro Surf Concept.
Unveiled at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, the Surf Concept is based on the Vivaro Crew Cab; a passenger carrying commercial vehicle with two rows of seating, space for 6 passengers and a bulkhead between the cabin and load area. This isn't, however, a normal Crew Van.
Sporting copper-brown and white paint work with full colour coding, the Surf Concept certainly doesn't look like a normal van. Fitted with alloy wheels, uprated headlights and lowered by 70mm, it stands out from the crowd.
Inside, the cab has been upgraded to include leather seats, dashboard and gear lever as part of the 'Irmscher Tourer Pack' (available on the standard Van) for a more car-like feel. There's also velour floor mats to reduce noise, automatic climate control and Vauxhall's infotainment system.
Behind the bulkhead, the 3.2 cubic metre load area is a clever use of space with a rail system in the floor and overhead racking for hanging your wetsuit. Underneath the second row seats, you'll also find a storage box for smaller items. Outside, there's a special van roof rack for carrying bikes and surfboards.
Powered by the 140bhp BiTurbo CDTI engine available in the standard Vivaro, the Surf Concept is also fitted with air suspension as standard (we're assuming this is to do with the practicality of having a van lowered by 70mm!)
Whilst currently on display at Frankfurt, there isn't any plans to bring it in to production just yet, but you never know. Rumour is that a limited edition run could be in the pipeline - watch out T5!
