A bonnet bra? What is it and why do you need one?

Well in simple terms, a bonnet bra (also known as a front-end bra, hood bra or bonnet cover) is a vinyl cover that fits to the front, or bonnet, of a van to protect it from scratches, stone chips and insect damage. They are also often used to cover up scrapes and damage if a repair isn’t essential.

As we’ve mentioned, bonnet bras are made of vinyl, which are hardwearing and fleece lined to protect the surface of the van further. They come in a range of styles, patterns and colours, although often the most common and preferred is matte black. With a tailored fit for individual models and easily adjustable retaining straps, our bonnet bras can be effortlessly installed by one person, without the need to visit a garage.

Why fit a bonnet bra?

For the most part, here at Van Demon we think the main reason to fit a bonnet bra is to protect your beloved vans bonnet from unnecessary chips and scratches. If a full bra is not for you, there’s a few options; opt for a three-quarter or a half bra for a less noticeable (but still protective) look, or alternatively simply fit and then remove after long journeys to avoid higher speed chipping incidents. We’ve heard some customers saying that they often find their bonnet bras becoming dull and lacklustre after time, losing their finish. Now we know you wouldn’t let your van lose its curb appeal, so why do the same to your bonnet bra? We recommend wiping over your bra with a soft damp cloth, drying fully and then applying a light layer of wax or tyre shine to keep that new finish.
